2019 Platform Committee Report

Committee members:

  • Spencer Dias – Chair
  • Brandon Phinney
  • Stephen Nass
  • Richard Manzo
  • Caleb Dyer

Going into committee, we intended to have as little as possible as there was not much talk about the Platform as compared to the Bylaws. We managed to find a few created way back in 2018 and went off of those – which happened to all answer some requests that I have received from various people. A total of four platform proposals were brought forward, all four were reviewed. For future committees, it may be worth looking at the idea of repealing the platform and sticking with the Statement of Principles. Recently the Libertarian Party of California did just this. Please pay close attention to the time when going forward with these proposals.

In liberty,
Chairman Dias

2.1 Property

The ownership of property is essential to the function of the market. We hold that rights to property are integral to the individual. We recognize that owners of real property have the full and exclusive right to control, use, improve, dispose of, or in any manner enjoy it without interference, until and unless their exercise infringes the rights of others. We firmly reject the practices of eminent domain and asset forfeiture for either private or public purposes.

We reject the notion that individuals or groups may claim ownership of ideas and employ governments to artificially restrict the flow of information. We therefore oppose all laws which allow for the exclusive ownership of or the rights to an idea including patent laws, and instead favor the use of voluntary non-disclosure agreements.

We oppose foreign warring and interventionism and New Hampshire’s complicity in such activities. We oppose contractual entanglements with foreign powers and support free travel of and trade between individuals across the Earth.

Government Licensure

Final:

3.4 Parents, Children & Families

We oppose government interference in private family matters. We recognize that children are in many cases incapable of giving fully informed consent to many activities and therefore their consent and exercise of their rights are entrusted to their parents or guardians until such a time as they are able to independently give consent. We oppose the licensing of marriage or other personal relationships and special benefits conferred thereby and advocate for their repeal. We support the right of husbands, wives, and children to be free from familial violence or abuse. We support the right of adults to adopt and take responsibility for children without interference by government.

Report: Recommended by Committee with one abstention (3-0-1 Manzo Abstains).

2.9 Vice

We oppose all laws and regulations that attempt to protect individuals from the consequences of their own behavior and support their repeal. All those presently incarcerated or ever convicted solely for the commission of victimless crimes should be pardoned and their records expunged.

We oppose the state monopoly on the sale of liquor as well as licensing and regulation on the use, possession, sale, distribution, and production of beer, wine, and spirits.
We favor the decriminalization and deregulation of gambling and the allowance of private competition to the state administered lottery.

We favor the decriminalization and elimination of restrictions and regulations concerning the use, possession, sale, distribution, and production of cannabis and other scheduled drugs.

2.10 Sex Work

We oppose the state criminalizing consensual contracts between adults. We assert the right of consenting adults to provide sexual services to clients for compensation and the right of clients to purchase sexual services from consenting sex workers.
